RAISE-IT | Rhine-Alpine Integrated and Seamless Travel Chain

The RAISE-IT (Rhine-Alpine Integrated and Seamless Travel Chain) project examined the better integration of long-distance rail with regional and local transport networks along the Rhine-Alpine Corridor, one of the nine Core Network Corridors (CNCs) under the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

RAISE-IT aimed at supporting and improving a sustainable travel chain along the corridor for all kind of passenger trains. In order to ease a modal shift to rail journeys, e.g. from more polluting modes with higher CO2 emissions (such as cars and airplane in particular), rail services need to cater for a variety of passenger needs. To address emission goals, the whole travel chain should be considered and good interconnections with other modes such as walking, cycling, regional and local trains and other public transport services are needed. In addition to operational aspects of transport, factors such as the quality of rail stations and their surroundings also play an important role in recasting and improving the attractiveness of rail journeys. From a user perspective there is an urgent need to develop seamless and suitable passenger transport solutions and RAISE-IT aimed to contribute to this target. With this goal, RAISE-IT partners explored the accessibility of urban nodes and the quality of services and connections provided at nodes by looking into manifold travel distances and destinations along the Corridor.

RAISE-IT was co-financed by the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility.
